S4FE-D® doesn’t neutralize a chemical, disinfect a virus, or destroy a radioactive nucleus. Nothing can destroy a radionuclide on contact. What it does is bind the contaminant into the cleaning solution through Bind-It™ surfactant chemistry — a charged surfactant that wraps around the particle and forms a stable complex on contact — so when you wipe the surface, the contamination comes off the surface and into the wipe. The wipe goes in a sealed bag. The surface is clean.
Chemical residue. Biological pathogen. Radiological isotope. Unknown drug. Spray, dwell ~30 seconds, wipe. The responder doesn’t have to identify the substance before responding. That’s the difference between a working decontamination protocol and a bottle on a shelf next to three other bottles.
Here’s the part that catches people off guard: the chemistry itself is gentle. Essentially pH-neutral (~6.5), non-corrosive on aluminum, anodized surfaces, and the bonded substrates common in radiation-detection and medical instrumentation, skin-safe, and not regulated for shipping as a hazardous material. The only PPE the SDS recommends is eye protection — no gloves, no respirator, no special handling. It removes the contamination without being the contamination.
