More crystal mass below the well.
By increasing crystal mass and thickness below the well by up to 400%, the Wiper Gold captures more counts — especially at 511 keV PET energies. Our design results in roughly 40% more crystal mass than typical single-well wipe counters, which translates directly into measured efficiency, lower MDAs, and better repeatability.
0.75″ equivalent radiation shielding, plus a mu-metal PMT light shield.
The Wiper Gold detector is surrounded by 0.75″ lead-equivalent shielding for radiation attenuation. Lower background means lower MDA. Combined with the extra crystal mass, the Wiper Gold delivers genuinely useful detection limits in a single-well form factor.
Inside the detector assembly, the photomultiplier tube (PMT) and crystal are wrapped in a mu-metal light shield. PMTs are extraordinarily sensitive to ambient light — even a small amount of light leakage creates enormous background counts because the PMT amplifies every photon. So a light-tight enclosure isn’t optional. What makes the LTI design different is the material: mu metal (a high-magnetic-permeability nickel-iron alloy) blocks light and channels external magnetic field lines around the PMT, eliminating the gain drift that magnetic fields would otherwise cause. The Earth’s magnetic field, nearby motors and transformers, fluorescent-light ballasts, MRI equipment in adjacent rooms — all the sources of magnetic interference that would otherwise show up as count-rate drift across the workday simply don’t affect the LTI PMT. Many lower-cost detectors solve light tightness with cheaper opaque materials (black anodized foil, plastic, paint) that provide no magnetic protection. LTI uses mu metal because one premium part does two engineering jobs.
AutoSpect™ + Spectrum Compensation.
Hardware specs only get you to honest counts. AutoSpect compensates for crystal efficiency variation across the energy range so spectral plotting is genuinely accurate. Spectrum Compensation adjusts for the gamma abundance of each isotope. Together: real DPM, no per-isotope calibrated standards.
Industry-leading resolution.
4096-channel MCA with automatic dead-time correction. Industry-best resolution for a single-well wipe counter at this price point — up to 64× the channel resolution of competing wipe counters. Spectral peaks are sharp, isotope ID is reliable, and the MCA tools (zoom, ROI, PHA, peak search) are real, not marketing.
